Really? Twain left the South early in the war, traveled the world, and finally settled in Connecticut. I'll bet you've never actually read Twain.
It appears that you are simply being a bigot: You're right … versus everybody in the South is wrong. it isn't just the South that is racist and fascist. it's our entire country. Look around.
If you would consider another perspective on what the South was like before the war, read Olmsted. He was a Yankee, and an abolitionist.
The American South has been exploited by Northern businesses, politicians, and financiers from the very beginning. They too were reaping the benefits of slavery, which had only been abolished a few years before the war. The South provided abundant natural resources, cheap labor, corruptible politicians, and a dumping ground for toxic wastes.
