If there was ever a "left" in the American political spectrum, it was the labor movement of the early 20th c., summarily crushed by Republican-controlled Eastern banks and industrialists. Roosevelt employed Keynes' notions of public debt to bootstrap this country out of the Great Depression, developing policies which Republicans spent the next fifty years dismantling. Let them own the damge they have done.
