Republicans are still entrenched in the Industrial Revolution-era notion that mechanization reduces cost thus increasing profits, conveniently disregarding the social and environmental costs.

We need subsidies for small farms (we subsidize big ones...) and incentives for long-term forestry that isn't monoculture. If the wealthy could be persuaded to invest in the GND via bonds, we could all benefit.
